Open Learning

If attending a structured training programme is difficult for you to fit into your work pattern, then open learning is one of the routes to consider. Most open learning programmes are well-structured formal courses with a clear study schedule and excellent learning supportive materials. The flexibility comes as you can choose when to study.

A wide range of learning material is available such as study guidebooks, CD-ROMs, audio tapes and on-line support. These are used rather than learning direct from a tutor.

Structured programmes can offer certificates and diplomas that can lead to a qualification such as a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

Tutor support
Open learning does not mean you study alone. This mode of learning provides regular tutor and peer group support. In this situation, tutors are used as facilitators in regularly held workshops where delegates are guided to explore further what they have learned, and discover how theories may be applied to real work situations.

Peer Group Support
Peer group support is encouraged, where experienced managers help one another by sharing a diverse range of industrial experiences obtained from various sectors. These meetings are often face to face, but many providers now offer on-line facilities such as forums, discussion groups and email self-help groups.

Benefits of this type of learning
This type of learning benefits those who require full flexibility in their learning in order for it to fit into their lifestyle.
