Chartered Manager

When the Institute of Management was awarded its Royal Charter in April 2002 they were also granted the right to award the title of "Chartered Manager" to those who could demonstrate that they had the necessary skills.

At last, those managers who can show how their skills, knowledge and experience can impact in their workplace can receive the recognition they so richly deserve. Being the hallmark of a Professional Manager, this award, as you would expect, is not lightly earned.

On-line assessment leads to a final panel interview where impact is tested and probed, before the award of the designation of Chartered Manager - the accolade of the true professional.

What is a Chartered Manager?

A Chartered Manager demonstrates ability and professionalism across the full range of management skills through continuing self development and positive impact in the workplace.

While the award of Chartered Manager is something new, it is intended to become a benchmark against which employers can measure current management competence and a demonstrable, positive impact in the workplace.

Why should I become a Chartered Manager?

The route to Chartered Manager will be characterised by continuous learning and development. It is the Chartered Management Institute's intention to establish Chartered Manager as a hallmark of current ability and professionalism - the key to employability for the future.

Benefits of Chartered Manager to employers

In the short-term, participation with the Chartered Manager programme will:

  • Encourage a CPD culture within your organisation
  • Provide independent confirmation that your managers are competent against the full range of generic management skills
  • Complement any management development initiatives you have in place
  • Help improve the management capabilities of your managers
  • Demonstrate your organisation's increased commitment to developing your people

Longer term, an increased number of Chartered Managers within your organisation will:

  • Increase your organisation's ability to win competitive tenders (particularly in people-intensive and high service level industries)
  • Improve management performance and, ultimately, your bottom line.

Before you can embark on the route to Chartered Manager you need to hold a level 4 (degree-level) qualification in a management discipline and be a full member of the Chartered Management Institute.

For more information as to how the scheme could benefit you or your organisation please telephone 01536 207400 or you can visit the Chartered Management Institute website for further details.
