This toolkit is designed to help managers at all levels to identify their learning and development needs. A variety of tools have been identified, varying in complexity and time to complete and covering both business and personal needs.

Using a choice of diagnostics will ensure flexibility and something suitable to meet individual needs and lead to a relevant and challenging development plan. Included on this page are the following tools;

BITE - Business Improvement Tool for Entrepreneurs

The Council for Management and Leadership (CEML) developed the Business Improvement Tool for Entrepreneurs (BITE) as an easy diagnostic analysis for entrepreneurs.

Assess

The ASSESS Personality Survey is an abridged version of two well-researched, well-respected personality instruments:  the Guilford Zimmerman Temperament Survey and the Dynamic Factors Opinion Survey.                                                                                                                Research has shown that the characteristics measured by these survey instruments impact success in many professional and managerial jobs.
ASSESS measures personality traits and characteristics that can impact job performance:

  • Thinking Style
  • Work Style
  • Interpersonal Style

This is an online psychometric assessment that feeds back information about personal characteristics within a competency model identified for Managing Directors.                               This is an assessment using a set of Managing Directors competencies specifically agreed for Lancashire Leaders.  Assessment involves completing an online questionnaire and a feedback meeting with an advisor to begin to identify the key areas for development.

The tool can be used if  a Managing Director has previous development, needs some clear feedback, has relevant experience and is happy to do a psychometric test.

Online TNA tool

How do you ensure that training and development is relevant and that you don't waste precious resources of time, money or expertise on learning that won't address your business needs?

The starting point for this training needs analysis (TNA) is your business, where you want it to go, and how you and your workforce can ensure it gets there. There are four steps;

  1. The first step is to clarify what your broad business priorities are. This online analysis will provide a framework for your Training Plan which is based around your business priorities.
  2. The second step is to identify the Areas of Strength and the Areas for Improvement in your business, in terms of skills, knowledge and experience.
  3. The third step is to identify your training needs, in terms of skills, knowledge and experience, to build on your strengths or improve your capacity to meet business needs.
  4. The fourth step is to identify the training and development activities most relevant to your needs.
